Two Retiring PNG Icons Differently Recognised

At the Peak of 2017 PNG National Elections, unfolding National Events involving Significant people in PNG's history. Two Faces of PNG sadly pass on leaving their legacies, only to be remembered for generations to come , The Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare, mostly known as the Founding Father of PNG was farewelled from politics few days ago in Parliament. Retiring, this man is simply a hero for Papua New Guineans and his legacy remains to tell Papua New Guineans that 'We Can!'

Though her handiwork at the age of 15 is seen all over the world identifying the Independent State of Papua New Guinea and proudly saluted by Papua New Guineans, Susan Karike Huhume remained unanimously humbled ever since Independence, and dying a heroic death at the Port Moresby General Hospital just like any ordinary Papua New Guinean.

The Irony is, One Being Most Popular and received 100% Recognition from all over the world even within PNG whilst the humbled woman, receives Less than 10% Recognition by ordinary Papua New Guineans.

Huhume is a great example of the Powerful and lasting legacy if a woman, ever can set for a Nation. A balanced achievements through both genders in developments leading to a completely independent PNG and this marked a strong involvement of woman in PNG's Independence! PNG will not be dictated by nor pushed to encourage women and girls empowerment so as gender equality. The practise has been there and It was proven by a 15 Year old young woman in her own time!

Lacking to recognize the efforts of a woman's contribution to the developments in this beautiful, young and developing nation is a sad reality and is very obvious!

Lest we forget, this nation's recognition in the globe has been efforts also from a young girl, Susan Karike Huhume. She is the name behind the Black, Yellow and Gold Flag flying High above Our Land! She is the name behind You!
