US Coast Guards in full swing in APEC 2018 security ops

UP TO ninety-five (95) United States Coast Guards have been in Port Moresby for over a week now, providing maritime security service, for the APEC 2018 Leaders Week Summit.

Their transportable 10 meter long security boats will be working in between the maritime restricted areas which have been declared by the Commissioner of Police and Commander of the Joint Security Task Force Gari Baki.

The main locations that the US coast guard will be patrolling include the APEC Haus and the three cruise ships.

Commander Michael McCarthy of the Coast Guard Unit PSU 305 spoke to the local media over the weekend expressing his pleasure to be in PNG to provide water security during a huge event for a small country such as PNG.

“We’ve had some fisherman out at sea, but we have spoken to them and passed on some fliers and it’s been a very friendly exchange,” said Commander McCarthy.

There are eight (8) coast guard boats out at sea, working with the JSTF including water police, watching over the areas that are out of bounds to the general public, fisherman and sailors during the Leaders Week from November 12-18, 2018.
